Science posters displayed on the wall at a previous fair

Science on the Wall

Who can enter?

Any student in grade 1 to 5 who is enrolled in a Public or Catholic school (English or French) in SD&G or in the Akwesasne Mohawk School Board. Posters can be submitted by individual students or pairs.

Each school has a quota of 1 poster per 8 students per grade.

What might the poster’s topic be?

The subject must be something to do with science. The idea for the display can come from anyone, but the work must be done by the student.

Please note:  Posters involving animals must be research or observation based.  You cannot use animals with a backbone in any active investigations or display animals at the fair.  Contact chair@ucsfair.org if you have questions.

What might the poster look like?

Size must be no larger than 40 cm by 65 cm (about one half of a piece of Bristol board).  Nothing can hang below or above the display.  The wall displays will be hung with masking tape.  Please make sure that they are not so heavy and awkward that they will be unable to be displayed.  Displays do not need to be flat.  However, you should not staple extra pages of information.

Attach the label to the back of the poster so we can identify which school and student it belongs to!

How are posters submitted?

Posters must be received by 3:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2024.
They should be dropped off at St. Lawrence Secondary School, 1450 Second Street East, Cornwall, ON.
In care of: Jason Marshall (UCSF Chair)

What will happen to my poster?

Use the teacher-provided label to identify your poster.  The posters will be judged by members of the UCSF committee.  All posters will be displayed at the United Counties Science Fair.  Winners will be identified at this time.  Posters, participation ribbons and prizes will be returned to schools after the fair.

What are judges looking for?

  • Does it look appealing?
  • Is there scientific content?
  • Is it accurate?
  • Is it creative?
  • Can it be easily read?
  • Is the grammar and spelling correct?
  • Does it look like it was completed on your own?
  • Is it correctly labelled?
